Help file / User Guide

Hi Emile,
First off all, this is a impressive piece of software!I believe that when I figured it out it will do most if not all I wish from a radio automation application.
Is there a help file or user guide for the 2.5.5.8 version. Al help files and tutorials are for older versions. And I get confused how things work. Especially the jingle, commercial and news scheduling part is not clear for me.
Thanks in advance,
RoN

RE: Help file / User Guide

Hi Ron,

Version 2.5 of the help file in combination with my newsletters should make up the total of the help needed.

Although features after version 2.5 are not documented in detail, my newsletter does point to the basics of how to use them.

Can you lend a hand in updating the docos?

If not, please bear with me while I get things sorted out on other projects and I will revisit and update the docos.

Cheers,

Emile

RE:

Emile,
Okay, so I have to dig deeper in the available
material in order to figure things out.
Maybe you can help me to figure out why the help file
isn't working for me? At one point I downloaded the
help file and placed it in the bp2x directory as the program
instructed. Since then it doesn't show any help information at all
anymore. If I open the help file directly it shows it cannot
display the information because there is no Internet connection? What
am I doing wrong here?
I certainly would like to contribute with the
documentation however am not native English so
there lies an challenge ;-). Let me know how I can contribute.
All the best,
RoN

RE: Help file

Hi Ron,

You're not doing anything wrong and it isn't your fault.
It is the way chm files work in Windows.
If you download a CHM file from the Internet, my website included, Windows doesn't open them unless you specifically give them the privilege.

Right click on the CHM file and select properties. Now on the properties dialog box, under the Advanced button, there is a button with the caption "Unblock". Click on the "Unblock" button to allow Windows to open the content of this file. After you click on the "Unblock" button, click on the "OK" button.

That's it. Now the help file should open on your computer.

You can translate my help file and add whatever extra content you want in your own language. That would help me and the community of users who speak your language.

Cheers,

Emile

Seen the light :-)

Hi Emile,
I will try the "Unblock" setting for the
help file and let you know the result.I have managed to get the
system up and running. And learn step by step my way around the
system. At this moment I end up with the situation that if I try to
generate a playlist (for a program). A error window pop-up with a big
red-cross and the wording “Exception” in it ??? I have no idea
how to fix this or what it means? Have you seen this behavior before
?
Also I notice that during the time the automated
scheduler did work, more than once, two soundtracks played
simultaneously ???
Anyhow a lot to learn and discover and looks like I
got more questions / suggestions in the near future.
And for all those of you who are banging their heads
on the keyboard ... there is light at the end of the tunnel :-)
Follow the tutorials .... and enjoy the application.
OK, I will have a go at a Dutch Translation for the
help files and maybe the application as well (if you think there is a
demand for it?)

First I will have a go at a BP2X quick starter guide
for dummies if I feel confident enough.
All the best!

I also get an Exception

Hi Emile, Ron,
The exception that RON is talking about is correct.
Even I am getting the same, and seem to figure out the exact stpes to reporoduce it. Initially i thought that it was because I was on Vista but that isnt the case.
Here are the steps.
Create a schedule.
Create a Program.
Right click to generate commercial spots. NOTE : This is where the bug starts. Here, uncheck the "Play on Time"
Now, again right click and generate a playlist.
The Exception comes.
Note : If you did not uncheck the "Play on Time" for Generate Commercial spots, the playlist is created smoothly without any error.
Ron, try this workaround.
Emile, could u please help us by fixing this bug.
I am on version 2.5.5.8 but i think i got this error on 2.5.5.5 also.

Exception when generating program playlist

Hi guys,

I confirm this is a bug.

The fix should be in the next release.

What should happen is that I should have displayed a dialog box with a message stating that there are no selected programs.

Here's the workaround:

1. Make sure you select the prgram you want to generate a playlist for from the calendar. You should see its border change when selected.

2. Right click and generate the playlist.

This workaround might or might not work, depending on what program elements exist in this program for which you're generating a playlist.

Another workaround would be to generate the commercial spots from the schedule and then create programs between the commercial spots.

Cheers,

Emile

Exception Details.

Emile,
The exception occurs irrespective of the fact whether u have selected the Program or not.
This is FYI.

RE: Exception details

Hi,

I have the fix now.

Please note that you should only download this version if you're interested in this and other minor bug fixes.

This is a pre-release version and is not supported.

RE: Seen the light :-)

Hi Ron,

Glad to hear you're getting good go at it.

I have not seen the "Exception" you mentioned, but if you can provide more details, I might be able to help.

Please check the log files for the error and send me a copy. That should narrow it down for me. Then I can explain what is happening.

When the automation scheduler ran more than once, was it for one song only and those that followed worked well, or more than one song?

If you put the application in debug mode, you can then see a step by step what the scheduler is doing with the audio files. This should tell you why this overlap of songs happened if it occurs again. The log files can grow to 10MB each and there are 10 of them. After that, they recycle.

Actually, 40% of the users of BP2X are from the Netherlands. That came as a surprise to me but when I investigated further, I noticed that there were a few posts on radioforum.nl which mention BP2X and have stimulated users' interest.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Emile
