Why not MySQL?

As a professional fm broadcaster, i want to congratulate you for this great project. Sadly i can't make it run. I have installed it about two month's ago, but it didn't work for me.
Anyway, i want to make some suggestions:
1. As i saw on your site, i'm not the only one who had trouble with M$'s database. It's a huge pack that screws up my OS, so why not MySQL? It's more simple to configure, it can be adapted vrey simple to work with a php site, etc. (see SAM Broadcaster). (And who knows, maybe after some years you will make a linux version too).
2. Another sugestion is to integrate an internet audio streamer (see for example oddcast, who can work with winamp's aac+ encoder).
I hope that my sugestions had not offended you in any way, because i know that this project is very complex, and it takes hundred's of hours to code it.
Good luck!

RE: Why not MySQL?

Hi,

As you know, this project started as a hobby.
I wanted to learn .NET and used to be a DJ long time ago, so I thought of developing BP2X.

The MYSQL or Firebird replacement DB for MSSQL is a great idea and on the table. I just have to find some time to replace it. With good luck and some time on hand, I can have this done in less than a month.

Streaming has been requested so many times that I'm seriously thinking of giving it a try. I have never worked with streaming servers, so I'll have to install one and learn the details to integrate with it.
Technically, it shouldn't be hard to stream with the existing version.
Just redirect the output of the sound card to its input and let Winamp or some other software handle it for you.
The alternative is to take the audio being played back, compress it and feed it to the server.
I'll keep you posted on how I go on those two requests.

PS: No offence taken. Any comment is a good comment. What good is a software that is great but can't be used?
PPS: If you need help installing this current version, please let me know. The latest version of the application installs MSSQL for  you, so you don't have to install MSSL before running BP2X installer.

Hi Emile,

Hi Emile,
Thanks for the quick response and i'm glad that you are open to sugestions :)
About the streamer, i'm 100% sure that a pro radio station don't need this function, because in professional broadcast the signal from the soundcard is passed thru the mixing console and the sound processor, to the emitter and/or streamer, but you see, there are many internet stations "in a box", using only one computer for all work. If you make a program suitable for pro radio AND internet radio, you gain more users.

Yesterday i used in my example SAM Broadcaster, which they say that is a professional radio automation software, but let's face it, that software lack's in functions needed by a real radio station. On the other hand your software is much more suitable for this kind of work (user access, powerfull scheduler for campaigns etc).

I will try this tomorrow the new version of BP2X and maybe i will have more luck :)
P.S. I'm not a great producer, but if you need, i can help you with some jingle's for BP2X.

Have a great weekend,
Marius.

Oddcast and streaming

If someone wants to stream using just one box, they can install Oddcast.  It will capture the soundcard audio and forward it to a Shoutcast host.  I have used this technique to stream from automation systems that lack integrated streaming.

ICEcast and SHOUTcast streaming

I have build a tool that captures audio from the default device, encodes it and sends to an ICEcast or SHOUTcast servers.
This tool will be made available to donators of this website.
I might publish it for a small fee.
Let me know if you are interested.
