Since I moved to the new host, I have had problems with my drupal CMS. It was refusing to send my newsletter in HTML/MIME mail format with the SMTP module installed.
The new host has the PHP mail function disabled, so I have to use SMTP. This is a good thing, in that email servers will not flag messages as spam (almost) if they come from an SMTP server with authentication.
The SMTP module is a very important module which sends emails using an properly configured email server instead of the local server which the default PHP engine uses.
Sending emails with the PHP mail can be considered a form of spam by some receiving mail servers. As such, you have to send emails from a server which requires you to authenticate before being able to send those messages.
To cut a long story short, I just finished hacking the SMTP and MIME modules in Drupal to allow me to use both modules in conjunction on my current host. You can read more about this by checking my post on Drupal's site.
