Broadcast audio from the soundcard's "Line Input"?

I just found this site and software and was unable to find any info on this particular topic. So far I have been unable to get it working (the SQL portion anyway) but that's another topic. Getting to my question, many broadcasters run programs coming from an outside network source. Does this program allow or accomodate broadcasting audio directly from the soundcard's "Line Input"? If it does, can it be turned on/off via the schedule?

If this software is unable to accomodate the above...is this something that can be added in a future release?

thanks,

RE: Broadcast audio from the soundcard's "Line Input"?

This version does not accommodate your request.
It can be programmed. I will investigate it and get back to you on the possibility of including it in the next release.

As for your SQL install, let me know if you need further assistance.

Whoops

Well, I was fully interested in the package until I saw this... We need the line-in function in order to use our mixing desk.

Any thoughts on when this will come in version wise? All we'd need is line-in and the ability to set the ducking level and we could switch 100%. We currently use SAM and to be honest, it sucks! Trying to switch away but keep hitting issues like this with virtually every application out there.

Line In functionality

Hi Lister,

Can you please provide a scenario of how you would be using the line-in functionality?

Is your intention to use the line-in to feed audio from the mixing deck (microphone, CD players, etc...), or automate playback of audio from the line-in through schedules from the application?

I've seen setups where Broadcast Power is automating palyback of digitized audio content, feeding into a mixer, where the output that goes to air is picked up from the mixer. This way, you can mix Broadcast Power audio with other devices (microphones, live feeds, etc...).

To automate volume control for the line-in channel will require coding. I can probably add this in, but not before March or April 2008, depending on my workload.

Our need...

Yes, line-in to feed from a mixing deck. We feed our studio mics and misc. audio equipment (CD decks and Satellite audio) through our mixing deck into the Line-In and the into SAM. So in our case SAM acts as a live assist *and* our automation system.

I think if you add this function so that the Line-In is supported it would benefit a lot of users.

I would go as far as to suggest multiple line-in support giving them the best possible option (i.e. multiple sound cards each with their own line-in). But at least one as soon as you possibly can.

I assume by "volume control" you're referring to "auto ducking" (dropping the playback level on the automation a set dB level when the line-in button is selected)? This would be great but please no AGC (Auto Gain Control) on the line-ins... Let us set levels via the mixing desk and the Windows mixer.

The benefit of line-in support is many fold - one being off-air talk since many commodity class mixers lack a "To Mix" function like is seen in high end studio consoles.

Line-In Functionality Implemented

Thank you for your feedback guys. I think you convinced me to implement this functionality.

I have started coding a line-in recording routine that plays back anything that is fed into the audio device.
You can control volume (on / off at this stage), and set effects (echo, gargle, flanger, chorus, etc...).
I added a new button to the players tab which displays the line in interface.
There is still some coding required to specify the audio device (Main Audio Device) to the control. Currently I'm using a hard coded value.

To take this a step further, I can probably monitor the line in level and as soon as it hits a certain dB level, I enable it for at least a set time and then switch off if the level stays too low after that.

Who wants to test this function, say I.

We use it the other way

We use it the other way around.

Using a A/B silence detector wich outputs the mixer console as a B ( output only possible when broadcast Power stops) and BP as A(= always on, except when live programs are scheduled)

It is a bit of a workaround, but works fine for now.
It propably would be better if there was an option for it in Broadcast Power , no need for extra hardware then!

(BTW, the system is up and running for almost 3 months now...)
