Yes it's perfectly fine to use 2008.
Make sure you install 2008 before installing BP2X.
When installing 2008, make sure you enable mixed mode security and set the "sa" password.
Enable TCP/IP protocol for SQL 2008.
When installing BP2X, use the information for SQL 2008 as installed above.
Finally, if you are installing BP2X on 64 bit Windows, make sure you download 64 bit SQL 2008 installer.
