Great News!
I've just finished coding a component of the installer which allows it to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express if a version is not found on your system.
Also, for those of you who asked me for the Line-In functionality, it's there now.
Announcement!

Version 2.5.5.1 of Broadcast Power has been released to registered users. This version will be available to the general public in a few week's time.

Get it today from the registered users download section of my website.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Installer
If you've been having trouble installing Broadcast Power because of issues when installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005, you'll be pleased to know that I have finally included a script in the installer to handle setting up SQL Server for you.

In summary, here's what the new installer does:
1. Check if the specified instance of SQL 2005 is installed, based on the user settings on the first configuration dialog box of the BP2X installer.
2. If SQL 2005 is found, skip the rest of the actions related to installing SQL Server.
3. If SQL 2005 instance is not found (you may have more than once instance of SQL server on your machine), create one.
4. The creation script first checks if the SQL setup file is found with Broadcast Power's installer, if so, it executes it with the appropriate commands. If not, you will be propmpted whether you would like Broadcast Power's installer to download MSSQL's installer from Microsoft's website.
5. After the download is complete, the executable is run with the appropriate commands.

What's new in 2.5.5.1?
This release has two new features and a bug fix.

The first feature is the addition of a line-in funtionality.
Broadcat Power 2.5.0.1

The second feature is the inclusion scripts to install Microsoft SQL 2005 with Broadcast Power.

How to use the Line-In function
So, what is the line-in function all about.
Well, you can simply say that the line-in function allows you to playback audio through Broadcast Power from your audio device's line-in.

There is a new button on the Players' tab which allows you to control audio playback from the line-in. I am planning on including the line-in as a media type where you can schedule it similar to any other audio file. Also, I will add a configuration setting for the line-in to allow you to control the audio level drop for other players when the Line-In button is pressed. Currently it will drop down the audio level for all other players by about 60%.

To start playing back audio from the line-in, simply click on the Line-In button.

In addition to simply fading, you can set effects on the line-in audio, including Echo, Chorus, Reverb, etc...

The bug
I have fixed the formatting for the WinUI plugin which exports commercials to StationPlaylist. Again, I don't have a copy of StationPlaylist, so if you find anything unusual about the file format, please let me know.

What next?
I'm hoping that in the next issue of this newsletter, I will publish the source code for the WinUI export plugin and explain how it works. Stay tuned for more.

Are you using Broadcast Power in a commercial setting?
If you are, I am really interested in hearing back from you. Please get in touch with me.
